Chapter two vocabulary

Chemical Change a change that occurs when one or more substances change into entirely new substances with different properties.
Molecule the smallest unit of a substance that still behaves like the substance
Density the ratio of mass to volume in a substance.
Atom the smallest unit of an element that keeps the elements chemical properties.
Boiling Point the temperature at which a liquid changes to a gas.
Melting Point the temperature at which a substance changes from a solid to a liquid.
Mixture a combination of substances that are not chemically combined.
Pure Substance matter that has a fixed composition and definite properties.
Compound a substance made up of atoms of different elements.
Element a substance that cannot be broken down into smaller substances by chemical means .
Physical Change a change of matter from one form to another without a change in chemical properties.
Matter anything that has mass and takes up space.
