Organelles and their functions
| Term | Definition |

| Lysosomes | small round structures that break down large food molecules. |
| Mitochondria | provides energy for the cell. |
| Ribosomes | are protein- making sites. |
| Cell Wall | supports and protects the cell and is only found in plant cells. |
| Nucleolus | called the "little nucleus" and is the birth place of Ribosomes. |
| Chromosomes | are responsible for passing on traits of a cell to a new cell. |
| Nucleus | the control center of a cell. |
| Cell Membrane | controls the movement of liquid in and out of the cell. |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum | the transportation system of the cell and is made up of tube-like passages. |
| Cytoplasm | is a clear, thick, jelly-like substance. |
| Chloroplasts | contain chlorophyll and are necessary for photosynthesis. They are found only in plants. |
| Vacoule | are large, round, water-filled sacs in the Cytoplasm that are used for storage. |
| Nuclear Membrane | protects the nucleus and allows material to pass in and out. |
| Golgi Body | package and release materials out of the cell. |
