Research Methods
Question | Answer |

hypothesis | a statement of an expected relaionship;An explicit, testable prediction about the conditionsunder which an event will occur, |
Theory | an organised set of principles used to explain observed phenomenon: if A then B because of C. |
Research Question | a borad question about the topic of interest. Why A? or what would happen if A? |
Descriptive research | Goal is to describe people and their thoughts, feelings or behaviours |
Correlational research | goal is to learn about the relationship between variables |
Statiscal significance | how likely is it that the results could have occured by chance? if 5 or fewer times in 100 then= statiscally significant |
Mundane realism | The extent to which the research setting resembles the real‐world setting of interest. |
Experimental realism | The degree to which the experimental setting and procedures are real and involving to the participant. |
Qualitative research | research centres on words, including stories, life histories, descriptions, etc. |
Quantitative research | research generates data and analyses that are numerical in form, including counts, distributions, correlations, |
Framing | represents an interaction on the partof the researcher between the body of psychological theory and the problem or issue they are interested in. |
Tiangulation | can combine quantitative, or variations within each, strengthens findings |
