This is the list of vocabulary terms from MLK's letter from Birmingham Jail

TermDefinition
agitator someone who purposely causes drama, conflict, and other problems for no reason. Dr. King is wrongly accused of being one.
affiliates to be affiliated means to be connected to or part of. Dr. King is affiliated with the NAACP.
advocate ad=to voc=vocalize or speaks To speak out. Dr. King advocates nonviolence. The NAACP is an advocate for civil rights.
assassinated murdered, killed
bondage the state of being imprisoned, shackled, or without freedom
Communist literally, someone who believes in Communism. In this context, it was used as an epithet or insult against people like Dr. King, Josephine Baker, and other Civil Rights activists even though non of them were affiliated with the Communist Party.
Clergymen pastors and leaders of the church. In this context, the religious leaders in the South and in Birmingham Alabama
cognizant cogn=to think or be aware aware of
compelled forced to do something not by choice, sometimes by necessity When I see injustice, I am compelled to speak up.
deplore to find something detestable or bad. to find something repugnant. I have seen people living in deplorable conditions.
deemed an old word for "thought of" or "thought" I deemed the time to be right.
garment a cloth or article of clothing. In this case, Dr. King uses it in a metaphor: "garment of destiny"
grapple to wrestle with or struggle with Some people grapple with depression or addiction.
gainsaying to argue against and win There is no gainsaying the Birmingham Alabama had some of the worst conditions with segregation.
gospel "good words," in this case, refers to the Bible or ideas considered as important as the religious foundations of the Bible
hounded to be harassed or hunted down
