Attitudes
Term | Definition |

Attitude | an evaluation a person makes of an object, person, group, event or issue |
Evaluation | the judgement being made, either positive, negative or neutral about aspects of our lives and the world in which we live |
Tri-component model | proposes there are three components of an attitude (ABC) |
Affective component | the emotional reactions an individual has towards an object person group, event or issue |
Behavioural component | the way and attitude is expressed through our actions |
Cognitive component | the beliefs we have about an object, person, group, event or issue |
Link between attitude and behaviour | determined by strength of attitude, accessibility, social context and perceived control |
Modelling | when the behaviour of and consequences for another is observed to guide thoughts, feelings and behaviour |
Classical conditioning | learning which occurs with the repeated connection of two different stimuli |
operant conditioning | learning based on the assumption that we tend to repeat behaviour which is rewarded, and not repeat behaviour which has undesirable consequences |
