| basin | bowl-shaped area of land surrounded by higher land |
| landform | a physical feature, such as a plain, mountain, hill, valley, or plateau, on the earth’s surface |
| mountain range | a row of mountains |
| piedmont | an area at or near the foot of a mountain |
| plateau | area of high, mostly flat land |
| volcano | opening in the earth, often raised, through which lava, rock, ashes, and gases are forced out |
| sea level | the level of the surface of an ocean or sea |
| current | the part of a body of water flowing in a certain direction |
| drainage basin | land drained by a river system |
| fall line | a place where the elevation of the land drops sharply, causing rives to form waterfalls or rapids |
