What is Planning? Deciding what needs to happen in the future and generating plans for action.
What is Organizing? Making sure the human and nonhuman resources are put into place
What is Coordinating? Creating a structure through which an organization's goals can be accomplished.
What is Commanding? Determining what must be done in a situation and getting people to do it.
What is Controlling? Checking progress against plans.
What are the 3 basic roles of management? Interpersonal; Informational; Decisional
What is the interpersonal role? roles that involve coordination and interaction with employees
What is the informational role? roles that involve handling, sharing, and analyzing information
What is the decisional role? roles that require decision-making
What 6 skills must a manager require? Political; Interpersonal; Conceptual; Diagnostic; Leadership; Technical
What is the Political skill? used to build a power base and establish connections
What is the Interpersonal skill? used to communicate, motivate, mentor and delegate
What is the Conceptual skill? used to analyze complex situations
What is the diagnostic skill? ability to visualize most appropriate response to a situation
What is the leadership skill? ability to lead and provide guidance to a specific group
What is the tactical skill? Expertise in one's particular functional area
