| diction | the choice of words an author uses; it speaks to style |
| personification | giving human charactersitics to animals or non-living things |
| synonym | a word that has the same meaning |
| testimonial | used in advertising: a person whom consumers respect claims to use the product and recoomends it |
| close-up | refers to a camera shot; takes up 80% of frame; may be used to show emotion of characters |
| thesis statement | sentence that states the writer's position or opinion on the topic of the essay |
| refrain | a phrase or verse recurring at intervals in a song or poem, especially at the end of each stanza; chorus |
| hyperbole | an intentional exaggeration |
