| flourish -verb | 1. to thrive or prosper, to do really well, like a child would in a loving and comfortable home. 2. to make a bold, sweeping gesture, usually by waving something like a hat or your hand in the air |
| flourish-noun | 3. A big gesture -for example, walking into a room or onto a stage like you are all that and a bag of chips! 4. A burst of music 5. A fancy line or curve added to a signature |
| garrison-noun | 1. Soldiers stationed in a place to protect it 2. A military post or location |
| garrison-verb | to provide soldiers with a place to live- The soldiers had to be garrisoned in people's homes. |
| grievous-adjective | causing grief or pain, hard to bear or tolerate |
| hoard-verb | to save and put away, usually secretly Squirrels hoard acorns for the winter. |

| inundate-verb | 1.to cover up or overwhelm with water from a flood 2. to be overwhelmed by other things just like they were a flood. For example, the school was inundated with phone calls after the roof collapsed. |

| principal-noun | 1. a person or thing that is the most important. The principals in the argument over school uniforms were the teachers and the parents. 2. the head of a school 3. the amount of money owed on a loan, like a car loan. |
| recede-verb | to move back or to drop to a lower level. People can't recede, but water can and hairlines can. 2. to become fainter -The noise of the fight receded as we drove away from it. |

| sacrifice-noun | something that is given up for the sake of another person or group. She made many sacrifices so her children could have adequate food. 2. an offering made to a god |
