Sympathetic & Parasympathetic Drugs

Bethanechol chloride Urecholine Stimulation of Parasympathetic Nervous system. Helps to empty GI system. Abdominal pain, increased salivation, sweating, n/v/d, flushed skin, blurred vision, headache
Atropine sulfate Atropine parasympatholytic. Depress salivary, bronchial secretions, sweating. Dilate pupils. Increase heart rate. Inhibit micturition. Inhibit gastric secretion. Inhibits sweating. Dry mouth, throat, & skin. Constipation. Intraocular pressure. n/v. Euphoria
Scopolamine Transderm-Scop parasympatholytic. Treats IBS. Depresses CNS & causes drowsiness, euphoria, memory loss sleep, relief of fear. N/V. Dry mouth, skin, throat. Headache. Photophobia; drowsiness; weakness; constipation; euphoria; amnesia; insomnia; dilated and fixed pupils.
clidinium Quarzan parasympatholytic. Reduces GI motility and secretion. Few CNS side effects. Adjunctive treatment for peptic ulcers. Blurred vision. Same as atropine.
Nicotine (blank) Temporarily stimulates all sympathetic and parasympathetic ganglia in Autonomic Nervous System. Stimulates CNS. Stimulation is followed by depression. Belching, fast heartbeat, headache, increased appetite, sore mouth or throat, constipation, coughing, irritability, indigestion, difficulty sleeping.
Epinephrine Adrenalin Symptomatic treatment of bronchial asthma & other diseases that cause bronchospasm. Symptomatic relief of acute hypersensitivity reactions. Adjunct c local anesthetics. Treat cardiac arrest or cardiac standstill. increased nervousness, restlessness, insomnia, tachycardia, tremors, sweating, increased blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, pallor
norepinephrine bitartrate Levophed vasoconstriction & reduced blood flow through kidneys & other visceral organs. Increase cardiac output. Treat Hypotension. anxiety, dizziness, pallor, tremors, insomnia, headache, pounding heart rate.
dobutamine hydrochloride Dobutrex Increases force of myocardial contraction. Short-term management of clients requiring inotropic support nausea, headache, angina, respiratory distress, palpitation, increased heart rate and BP
dopamine hydrochloride Inotropin Acts directly and indirectly by releasing norepinephrine. Causes vasodilation of renal and mesenteric arteries. Increase cardiac output. high dose increases BP headache, n/v, angina, decreased blood pressure, hypertension.
ephedrine (blank) Raises blood pressure. produces bronchodilation & treats mild asthma mood changes, hallucinations, n/v, pallor, sweating, tremors, tachycardia
sumatripan Imitrex cerebral blood vessel constriction. treats vascular headaches n/v, weakness, tingling
