| meanders | the winding, zig-zaggy snake shape of a river |
| delta | a flat, shallow triangle of soil near the mouth of a river |
| bridge point | a narrow place on a river, where it is easier to cross |
| reservoir | a man-made lake often formed by building a dam |
| estuary | where the river (fresh) water mixes with the ocean (salt) water |
| tributary | a smaller river that joins a larger river |
| source | the beginning of a river- usually a mountain or lake |
| oxbow | when a meander gets cut off, a lake forms in the old bend |
| mouth | where the river opens and ends at the ocean or sea |
| drainage basin | the area of land drained by a river and its tributaries |
