Adrenal Glands | endocrine glands that sit at the top of the kidneys |
Amygdala | a roughly almond-shaped mass of gray matter inside each cerebral hemisphere, involved with the experiencing of emotions. |
Association areas | a region of the cortex of the brain that connects sensory and motor areas, and that is thought to be concerned with higher mental activities. |
Computed Tomography (CT Scan) | an X-ray image made using computerized axial tomography. |
Endorphins | any of a group of hormones secreted within the brain and nervous system and having a number of physiological functions. They are peptides that activate the body's opiate receptors, causing an analgesic effect. |
Limbic system | a complex system of nerves and networks in the brain, involving several areas near the edge of the cortex concerned with instinct and mood. It controls the basic emotions (fear, pleasure, anger) and drives (hunger, sex, dominance, care of offspring). |
Genome | the haploid set of chromosomes in a gamete or microorganism, or in each cell of a multicellular organism. |
Dual Processing | an account of how a phenomenon can occur in two different ways, or as a result of two different processes |
Cerebellum | the part of the brain at the back of the skull in vertebrates. Its function is to coordinate and regulate muscular activity. |
Behavioral Genetics | the field of study that examines the role of genetics in animal (including human) behaviour. |
