Scabies Mites called Sarcoptes scabei
Pediculosis Lice; Three types- head, body, pubic
Pt. education for scabies, pediculosis infection Follow directions of scabicide/pediculide carefully. Wash all washable items in HOT water. Seal non-washable items in a plastic bag for 48-72 hours to kill, then dry clean. Sprays can be used on furniture. Advise school. Thoroughly clean house.
Eurax Crotamiton Ind: scabies
Kwell Lindane Ind: scabies, head lice, pubic lice
Ovide Malathion Ind: head lice, body lice, pubic lice
Nix, Elimite Permethrin Ind: Scabies and lice
Cause of Acne Vulgaris At puberty the sebaceous glands enlarge and the secretion of sebum increases. Sebum is an irritant fatty acid. This blocks the follicular canal.
Patient education regarding Acne treatment Do not administer to children under 12 yo. Acne will get worse briefly before it resolves because the medication pulls the sebum to the surface.
Benzoyl peroxide Ind: mild to moderate acne No systemic absorption- Pregnancy C; May cause drying, peeling, inflammation, swelling
Retin A cream, gel Trentinoin Ind: 2nd line for acne Causes thinning of stratum corneum which becomes more sensitive to sun. Pregnancy C
MAO of Tretinoin Promotes and increases cell turnover of both follicle and comedones. Cohesion between keratinized cells is decreased. Works on ACNE PRECURSOR LESION.

Accutane Isotretinoin Ind: SEVERE cystic acne Refer to Dermatologist! Pregnancy Category X! - iPledge Rx must be filled 7 days after (-) pregnancy test.
Dovenox Calcipotriene Ind: chronic, moderately severe psoriasis of scalp DO NOT USE ON FACE! Contraindications: Vit D toxicity, Hypercalcemia
Tazorac Tazarotene Ind: Plaque psoriasis Pregnancy category X!
Elidel Pimecrolimus Ind: short or intermittent term of moderate atopic dermatitis in non immunocompromised patients > 2 yo
ADR and precautions of Elidel Do not apply to active viral infections. Avoid sun/ UV light. Caution with CYP3A inhibitors. ADR: HA, nasopharyngitis, local rxns
