| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Frame of reference | A frame of objects that are not moving with respect to one another |
| Relative Motion | A movement in relation to the frame of reference |
| Distance | The length of a path between two points. |
| vector | a quantity that has mass or direction |
| resultant vector | the vector sum of two or more vectors. |
| speed | the ratio of the distance an object moves to the amount of time an object moves. |
| average speed | computed duration for an entire trip. I.E. total distance traveled. Formula: total distance over total time, or v=d over t |
| Instantaneous speed | speed measured at a particular moment, rate at which an object moves at any given point. |
| Velocity | velocity is a description of both speed and direction of motion. Velocity is a vector. |
| Acceleration | the rate at which velocity changes. Acceleration is a vector. |
| Free Fall | the movement of an object toward earth solely because of gravity. |
| Constant Acceleration | A steady change in velocity. |
| Linear Graph | The displayed data forms a straight line. |
| Nonlinear Graph | a curve connects the plotted data. |
