Matter anything that has mass and takes up space.
physical property a characteristic of a substance that can be observed without changing the substance into another substance.
chemical property a characteristic of a substance that describes its ability to change into another substance.
chemical reaction a change in matter that produces one or more new substances.
endothermic reaction a reaction in which energy is absorbed.
exothermic energy a reaction that releases energy in the form of heat.
chemical equation uses chemical formulas and other symbols instead of words to summarize a reaction
Conservation of mass during a chemical reaction, matter is not created or destroyed.
coefficient a number placed in front of a chemical formula in an equation.
catalyst a material that increases the rate of a reaction by lowering the activation energy.
inhibitor a material used to decrease the rate of a reaction
combustion a rapid reaction between oxygen and a substance called a fuel.
