argument Taking a position on a subject with the goal to persuade others
claim A specific statement that authors want audiences to accept as true and act on
determine When you understand what the text really says or what the author really means
distinguish Identify qualities that make things different
evaluate When you assess, judge or examine sources
evidence Facts, examples, data, quotations, interviews, or other sources which support a claim the writer makes
fact Evidence that is accepted as true
reason When you use valid, reliable evidence from current and credible sources
reliable Based on reason and sense which is strong and sound
trace When you follow an argument as a text unfolds
validity The quality of one's thinking being logically or factually sound
