Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space
Atom The smallest particle of an element that retains the chemical identity of the element
Molecule A group of two or more atoms joined together by chemical bonds
Element A pure substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances by physical or chemical means
Compound A substance that contains two or more different elements chemically joined and has the same composition throughout
Pure Substance Substance made up of one type of matter
Mixture Substance made up of multiple types of matter
Homogeneous Mix where particles are evenly distributed
Heterogeneous Mix where particles are NOT evenly distributed
