Class. of Matter

Classification of Matter

TermDefinition
Matter A physical or tangible object or substance. Anything that can be seen, touched, felt, or tasted. Everything is matter except energy.
Atom The basic unit of a chemical element.
Molecule A group of atoms bonded together. This is the smallest fundamental unit of a chemical compound that can take part in a chemical reaction.
Element One of a class of substances that cannot be separated into simpler substances by chemical means.
Compound Something composed of two or more elements, parts, or ingredients.
Pure Substance Any single type of material.
Mixture A substance made by mixing other substances together
Homogeneous Parts or elements that are of the same kind or alike.
Heterogeneous Diverse in character or content.
