Matter

TermDefinition
Atom the basic unit of a chemical element. An atom has a nucleus filled with protons and neutrons. All the electrons are in a cloud outside the nucleus.
Molecule The smallest unit in a chemical element or compound that has the chemical properties of the element of compound
Matter anything that has a mass and takes up space is matter
Compound a substances made up of two or more atoms
Element a substance made up of entirely one atom
Pure Substance made up of one type of matter
Homogeneous evenly distributed matter throughout
Heterogeneous not evenly distributed
Mixture a substance made up of multiple types of matter
