Matter

Science note-cards for matter, atom, molcule

TermDefinition
Atom Smallest component of an element. Contains a nucleus with protons and neutrons. Has electrons on the outer edge of the nucleus
Matter This is what makes up all physical things. Has mass and takes up space (volume)
Molecule Made up of two or more atoms. Exists freely to move around.
Element A component of a whole. A class of substances that can't be seperated
Compound A combination of two or more elements
Pure Substance Substance made up of 1 type of matter (element or compound)
Mixture A substance made up of multiple matter
Homogeneous A mixture where particles are evenly distributed
Hetergeous A mixture where particles are not evenly distributed
