Matter flashcards

TermDefinition
Matter anything that has mass and takes up space.
atom the basic unit of a chemical element.
molecule a group of atoms bonded together, representing the smallest fundamental unit of a chemical compound that can take part in a chemical reaction.
compound a thing that is composed of two or more separate elements; a mixture.
element An element is a substance that is made entirely from one type of atom.
Pure substance material that has constant composition (is homogeneous) and has consistent properties throughout the sample.
Mixture a mixture made up of multiple types of matter
Heterogeneous Mixture A mixture where the particles are not evenly distributed
Homogeneous Mixture A mixture where the particles are evenly distributed.
