lteracy terms

metaphor figure of speech that makes a comparison between two unlike things without using a connective word such as like,as, than, or resembles
dialogue conversation between two or more persons
soliloquy the act of speaking alone on stage talking to him or her self
tone the attitude the writer has in the story
mood the feeling the reader gets when reading
allegory to tell a story
simile when two things are compared with like and is
aside words spoken by a character directly to the audience or another character but not overheard by other onstage in a play.
statistics scientific fact
imagery figurative or descriptive language in a literary work
genre kind, category, or sort, esp. of literary or artistic work
foil character who serves as a contrast to another character
monologue a form of dramatic entertainment, comedic solo, or the like by a single speaker: a comedian's monologue.
setting the environment
repetition the act of repeating; repeated action, performance, production, or presentation
irony emphasis is placed on the opposition between the literal and intended meaning of a statement
abiding continuing; lasting
