Unit 3 lesson 1-4
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Electric charge | is a property that leads to electromagnetic interactions between the particles that make up matter. |
| Static electricity | is the buildup of electric charge on an object |
| Electrical conductor | is a material through which charges can move freely |
| Electrical insulator | Is a material through which charges cannot move easily |
| Semiconductor | Are special class of materials that conduct charge better than electrical insulators but not as well as electrical conductors. |
| Electric current | The rate of flow of electric charges |
| Voltage | Is the amount of work required to move each unit of charge between two points |
| Resitance | The opposition to the flow of electric charge |
| Electric circuit | Is a complete, closed path. |
| Series circuit | All parts are connected in a row that forms one path. |
| Parallel | Electric charges have more than one path. |
| Magnet | Describes any material that attracts iron. |
| magnetic force | Exert or push on or pull on each other. |
| Magnetic poles | two magnetic can push each other apart. |
| Magnetic field | The area surrounding a magnet where magnetic forces can be detected. |
| Electromagnetism | Results when electric currents and magnetic fields interact with each other. |
| Electromagnet | Wrapping a solenoid around an iron core. |
