Unit 3 book 2
Electricity and Magnetism
Term | Definition |
---|---|
electric Charge | a property that leads to electromagnetic interactions between the particles that make up matter |
Static Electricity | the buildup of electric charge on an object |
Electrical Conductor | material through which charges can move freely |
Electrical Insulator | a material through which charges cannot move easily |
Semiconductor | a special class of materials that conduct electric charge better than electrical insulators, but not as well as electrical conductors |
Electric Current | the rate of flow of electric charges |
Voltage | the amount of work required to move each unit of charge between two points |
Resistance | the opposition of flow of electric charge |
Electric Circut | a complete closed path through which electric charges can flow |
Series Circut | all parts are connected in a row that forms one path for the electric charges to follow |
Parallel Circut | electric charges have more than one path that they can follow |
Magnet | to describe any material that attracts iron or other objects made of iron |
Magnetic Force | they exert a push or a pull on eachother |
Magnetic Pole | two magnets that push each other apart because of their ends( North and South pole) |
Magnetic Field | the area surrounding a magnet where magnetic forces can be dejected |
Magnetism | depends on the materials atoms so they can only pick up things made of iron |
electromagnet | a strong magnet that picks up things in a scrap yard |
