| Alliteration | repeaeting of the same consinant sound at the beginning of words next to or near each otehr |
| analogy | a comparison of two related things to two other items that have the same relaetionship |
| hyperbole | extreme exaggeration or overstatement for effect |
| idiom | expression that cannot be taken literally; it has a meaning other than it's actual definition |
| metaphor | comparison of two unlike items by saying that one is the other |
| simile | comparison of two unlike things usings the words like, as or resembles |
| onomatopoeia | words that sound like their meaning |
| personification | giving human traits and characteristics to nonhuman things |
| symbolism | an object represents another thing or idea |
