Forms of prose

TermDefinition
short story a brief work of fiction in which one or several characters experience a series of events
novel a work of fiction that is one hundred pages or more
novella a work longer than 20 pages but shorter than 100 pages
folk tale a story with no known author that has been passed on from one generation to another by word of mouth
essay/article short piece of prose that discusses a limited topic
biography the story of a real person's life written by another person
autobiography the story of a person's life written by that person
fiction an imaginary story
non fiction a story about real people, events, or ideas
