Terms and definitions for the different parts of speech

TermDefinition
Noun person, place, thing or idea
Verb shows action or state of being
adjective Describes or modifies a noun
Adverb Describes a verb, adjective or another adverb
Preposition Shows the relationship between a nounor pronoun and another word in a sentence
Conjunction Connects words, phrases and clauses
Coordinating Conduction Connects two or more sentences together - For, and, nor, but, or, yet and so
Interjection shows emotion; usually at the beginning of a sentence, but may "interrupt" a sentence
Pronoun Replaces or takes the place of a noun
