Child Development Play - Influence on Practice and Theorists

| Piaget | Adults should provide a play based curriculum and a stimulating environment through which children can construct their own knowledge and understanding. The adult should not intervene unnecessarily in children’s play as play should be child-led. |
| Bandura | Adults should provide a positive role model for children through what they say and do as children will copy adults |
| Skinner | Adults should praise positive behaviour in the hope that it will increase and try to ignore negative behaviour in the hope it will decrease. |
| Vygotsky | Adults should provide a play based curriculum and engage with children in play activities to extend their learning. Children also learn from their peers. There should be a balance between child-led and adult-led play. |
| Malaguzzi | Adults should provide a play based curriculum and establish close links with parents and the wider community. This has parallels with the concept of children’s centres in this country. |
