Child Development Play - Influence on Practice and Theorists

TermDefinition
Piaget Adults should provide a play based curriculum and a stimulating environment through which children can construct their own knowledge and understanding. The adult should not intervene unnecessarily in children’s play as play should be child-led.
Bandura Adults should provide a positive role model for children through what they say and do as children will copy adults
Skinner Adults should praise positive behaviour in the hope that it will increase and try to ignore negative behaviour in the hope it will decrease.
Vygotsky Adults should provide a play based curriculum and engage with children in play activities to extend their learning. Children also learn from their peers. There should be a balance between child-led and adult-led play.
Malaguzzi Adults should provide a play based curriculum and establish close links with parents and the wider community. This has parallels with the concept of children’s centres in this country.
