pituitary gland produces multiple hormones and is located at the base of the brain; controls body's growth and releases hormones into the bloodstream that control much of the activity of other glands
thyroid gland located just below the larynx and releases hormones important for regulating body metabolism; 4 smaller parathyroid glands located on the thyroid gland
thymus located beneath the sternum; produces insulin and glucagon
adrenal glands located on top of the kidneys; produce aldosterone, cortisol, androgens, estrogens, epinephrine and norepinephrine
