Questions to ask when viewing Caldecott Hopefuls

Is the book Fiction or Non Fiction?
What is the POINT OF VIEW? (who is telling the story...a character, a narrator?)
What age level do you think the book appeals to most?
Is this book worthy of a Caldecott Medal or Honor Medal?
What was the medium the illustrator used? (watercolor, pencil, photography, collage, etc)
Does this book remind you of another book? (text to text connection)
Why do you think this book is a potential Caldecott winner?
