Trait A characteristic
Heredity The passing of traits from parents to offspring
Genetics The study of heredity
Purebred Always produces offspring that have the same trait
Genes Factors that control traits
Alleles The different forms of a gene
Dominant Always shows up in an organism
Recessive Is hidden whenever the dominant allele is present
Hybrid Has two different alleles for a trait
Phenotype Is the way an organism looks-Smooth
Genotype Is the genetic makeup, or combination of alleles in an organism-SS or Ss
Homozygous An organism that has two of the same alleles for a trait-SS or ss
Heterozygous An organism with two different alleles for a trait-Ss
