Heredity-Science

Vocabulary for Heredity and Genetics

TermDefinition
Heredity The passing of traits from parents to offspring.
Genetics The study of heredity.
Genes Factors that control traits.
Alleles Different forms of a gene.
Dominant Allele A trait that always shows up in an organism.
Reccessive Allele A trait that is hidden whenever the dominant one is present.
Phenotype The way an organism looks.
Genotype The genetic makeup or combination of alleles.
Homozygous An organisn that has two of the same alleles for a trait. Purebred.
Heterozygous. An organism with two differnt alleles for a trait. Hybrid.
