| Machine | any device that helps people do work by changing the way we work |
| Mechanical advantage | The number of times the machine multiplies the input force |
| mechanical efficiency | An comparison of a machine's work output with the work input |
| Lever | A simple machine that has a bar that pivots at a fixed point |
| Fulcrum | The fixed point of a lever |
| Wheel and axle | A simple machine that is made of a wheel connected to a smaller cylindrical object, the axle |
| Pulley | A simple machine that has a grooved wheel that holds a rope or a cable |
| Inclined Plane | A simple machine that is a straight, slanted surface |
