| Rhythm | A repeated pattern of sounds or movements. |
| Repetition | The act of saying or doing something again. |
| Stanza | A group of lines. |
| Metaphor | An object, activity, or idea that is used as a symbol of something else. |
| Personification | An imaginary person that represents a thing or idea. |
| Simile | To compare someone of something using like or as. |
| Symbol | An action, object, event, ect that expresses or represents a particular idea, or quality. |
| Alliteration | The use of words that begin with the same sound near one another. |
| Assonance | The use of words that have the same or very similar vowel sounds near one another. |
| Consonance | Agreement or compatibility between opinions or actions. |
| Onomatopoeia | The formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named. |
| Rhyme | Rhyme is a poem composed of lines with similar ending sounds. |
| Meter | Is a pattern of beats, the basic linear measerments of the metric system. |
| Narrative Poetry | A short story told in verse. |
| Haku | Unrhymed lines which are written in a 5 7 5 sylable. |
| Free Verse | Is poetry that does not rhyme or have a regular meter. |
| Lyric Poetry | Is a highly musical verse that expresses the observation and feelings of a singe speaker. |
| Concrete poems | Is one with a shape that suggests its subject. |
| Limericks | Is a humorous, rhyming, five line poem with a specific meter and rhyme scheme. |
| Rhyming Couplets | Is a regular patern of rhyming words in a poem. |
