Work, Energy, and Pawer

| work | The use of force to move an object some distance in the direction of the force. |
| energy | The ability to do work. |
| power | The rate at which work is done. |
| kinetic energy | The energy of motion. |
| potential energy | The energy an object has because of its position, condition, or chemical position. |
| mechanical energy | The energy possessed by an object due to its motion and position. |
| machine | Any device that helps people do work by changing the way work is done. |
| mechanical advantage | The number of times the machine multiplies the input force. |
| mechanical efficiency | A comparison of a machine's work output with the input. |
| lever | A simple machine that has a bar that pivots at a fixed point. |
| fulcrum | A fixed position. |
| wheel and axle | A simple machine that is made of a wheel connected to a smaller cylindrical object, the axle. |
| pulley | A simple machine that has a grooved wheel that holds a rope or a cable. |
| incline plane | A simple machine that is a straight , slanted surface. |
