Work | The use of force to move an object some distance in the direction of the force |
Energy | The ability to do work |
Power | The rate at which work is done |
Kinetic Energy | The energy of motion |
Potential Energy | The energy an object has because of its position, condition, or chemical composition |
Mechanical Energy | The energy possessed by an object due to its motion and position |
Machine | Any device that helps people do work by changing the way work is done |
Fulcrum | The fixed point on a lever |
Mechanical Advantage | The number of times the machine multiplies the input force |
Wheel and Axle | A simple machine that is made of a wheel connected to a smaller cylindrical object, the axle |
Mechanical Efficiency | A comparison of a machine's output with the work input |
Pulley | A simple machine that has a grooved wheel that holds a rope or a cable |
Lever | A simple machine that has a bar that pivots at a fixed point |
Inclined Plane | A simple machine that is a straight, slanted surface |
