Persuasive Technique

Persuasion Unit Vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
Persuade try to convince someone to do something or think a certain way
Claim the writer's position on an issue, opinion or stance the writer is trying to convince the audience of
Support reasons and evidence that help prove a claim like statistics or examples
Research websites, articles, experts, etc. that build your claim
Ethos ethics, appeals to the audience's sense of doing the right thing, uses the ten ethical principles
Logos logical, appeals to the audience's sense of doing something that makes sense or is logical and smart, makes you think you're doing the smart thing
Pathos emotional, appeals to your emotions, happiness and pity are used a lot
Kairos builds a sense of urgency and convinces the audience that they must act now or lose out
Bargain Words makes you think you are getting a great deal, one you can't pass up
Bandwagon entices you to join the happy crowd, don't miss out on what everyone is doing, don't be different
Celebrity some famous person, athlete or rock star perhaps, tells you to do it, be like them
Snob Appeal be special, don't be like everyone else
Scientific Terms uses fancy language and words that sound scientific
Purr Words words that suggest pleasant thoughts like mother, home, success, warm, etc.
