Electron Dot Diagram A model of an atom where each dot represents a valence electron
Ion An atom that has a net positive or negative electric charge
Anion An ion with a negative charge
Cation An ion with a positive charge
Chemical Bond The force that holds atoms or ions together as a unit
Ionic Bond The force that holds cations and anions together
Chemical Formula A notation that shows what elements a compound contains and the ratio of the atoms or ions of these elements in the compound
Crystals Solids whose particles are arranged in a lattice structure
Covalent Bond Chemical bond where two atoms share a pair of valence electrons
Molecule Neutral group of atoms that are joined together by one or more convalent bonds
Polar Covalent Bond Convalent bond where electrons aren't shared equally
Polyatomic Ion A covalently bonded group of atoms that has a positive or negative charge and acts as a unit
Metallic Bond Attraction between a metal cation and the shared electrons that it surrounds
Alloy A mixture of two or more elements. At least one is a metal.
