Defense Mechanisms

Repression pushng a painful event or thought out conciousness and into the unconcious
Denial Rejecting truth or fact
Rationalization explaning away a problem so we dont have to accpet the blame
Displacement venting feelings onto something or someone else, other than the true target
Regression A move backwards in behavior. ie; childish behavior. Ex: temper tantrumns.
Projection Projecting your own thoughts onto someone else.
Reaction formation Expressing the opposite of what we are truly feeling. Ex: 'mike? that kid is an idiot!' when you truly like Mike a lot
Sublimation Channeling our emotional energy into constructive or creative activities.
