Motion Unit 1

All you need to know about motion and unit 1's

TermDefinition
Position Describes a location of an object
Reference Point Describes a location which you compare other locations
Motion A change in position over time
Speed A measure of how far an object travels
Vector A Quantity that has both size and direction
Velocity Speed in a specific direction
Acceleration The rate at which velocity changes
Centripetal Acceleration Acceleration in a circular motion
Force A push or a pull
Net Force The combination of forces acting on an object
Inertia The tendency of all objects to resist a change in motion
Gravity A force of attraction between objects due to their mass
Free Fall When gravity is pulling it down and no other forces are acting on it
Orbit Traveling around another object in space
Fluid Any material that can flow and that takes the shape of its container
Pressure The measure of how much force is acting on a given area
Pascal The SI unit for pressure
Atmospheric Pressure The pressure caused by the weight of the atmosphere
Buoyant Force Any upward force that fluids exert on all matter
Archimedes' Principal States that the buoyant force acting on an object in a fluid is an upward force equal to the weight of of fluid that the object displaces
