position describes the location of an object
reference point a location in which you compare to other locations
motion change in position over time
speed measure of how far something moves in a given amount of time
vector quantity that has both size and direction
velocity speed in a specific direction
acceleration the rate at which velocity changes
centripetal acceleration acceleration in circular motion
force a push or pull
net force the combination of all the forces acting on an object
inertia the tendency of all objects to resist a change in motion
gravity a force of attraction between objects due to their mass
free fall when gravity is pulling it down and no other forces are acting on it
orbit when it travels around another object in space
fluid anything that can flow and take the shape of its container
pressure the measure of how much force is acting on a given area
pascal the SI unit for pressure
atmospheric pressure pressure caused by the weight of the atmosphere
buoyant force an upward force that fluids exert on all the matter
Archimedes' principle states that the buoyant force acting on an object in a fluid is an upward force equal to the weight of fluid that the object displays
