TermDefinition
observation Something you detect using one or more of your senses
inference When you make a guess about what happened based on your observations and what you already know.
prediction An idea about what will happen in the future with an explanation of why.
sound A form of energy made by vibrations.
vibrate To move back and forth very fast.
volume How loud a sound is.
loud sound High sound waves with high energy.
soft sound Low sound waves with less energy.
pitch How high or low a sound is.
high pitch When a sound vibrates quickly, making more sound waves it makes a ______________ sound.
low pitch When a sound vibrates slowly, making few sound waves it makes a ______________ sound.
binary classification Grouping objects into two groups based on whether they have some property or not.
variable A factor that is deliberately changed in an investigation.
unscientific observation An observation in which everyone may not agree
communicate To use written or spoken words, graphs, demonstrations, drawings, diagrams, or data tables to share information and ideas with others.
scientific observation An observation in which the result will always be the same.
measure To compare an unknown amount with a known unit to determine its dimensions, mass, capacity, temperature, speed, quantity, or extent.
testable question A question in which an experiment is needed to find the answer.
sequential To arrange objects or events in order according to a particular property. OR Placing obects or events in order based on what occured first, second, and so forth.
temperature A quantitative property that tells how much heat something has.
