Plate Tectonics

TermDefinition
Inner Core 1,250km thick. Iron and nickel. Solid and metallic.
Outer Core 2,200km thick. Iron and Nickel. Liquid and metallic.
Lower Mantle Silica rocks. Solid and rocky
Upper Mantle Lowest part of lithosphere. Solid
Asthenosphere The part of the upper mantle that flows like trickle.
Mohorovicic Discontinuity (Moho) A thin band near the top of the upper mantle. It marks change from crust to mantle
Crust 5-100km think. Contains minerals such as quartz and feldspar found in igneous rock, such as granite, sedimentary and metamophic rocks
Lithosphere Crust, Moho and Upper Mantle
