Psychotic Disorders | severe mental disorders characterized by a retreat from reality, social withdrawal, hallucinations and delusions-Schizophrenia (disorganized, catatonic, paranoid). |
Mood Disorders | major disturbances in mood or emotion- depression, bipolar |
Anxiety Disorders | disruptive feelings of fear, apprehension, or anxiety, or distortions in behavior that are anxiety related- Generalized, obsessive-Compulsive, Phobias, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) |
Somatoform Disorders | extreme psychosomatic symptoms-hysterical blindness, hysterical deafness |
Dissociative Disorders | separation from self-amnesia, multiple personality disorder |
Insanity | strictly legal term that refers to an inability to manage one's affairs (civil court)or to be aware of the consequences of one's actions (criminal court) |
