Motion and Forces

Unit 1 Lessons 1-4

reference point a location to which you compare other locations.
motion a change in position over time.
speed an object is a measure of how far something moves in a given amount of time.
vector a quantity that has both size and direction.
velocity a speed in a specific direction.
position describes the location of an object.
acceleration the rate at which velocity changes.
centripetal acceleration acceleration in circular motion.
force simply a push or pull.
net force the combination of all the forces acting on an object.
inertia the tendency of all objects to resist a change in motion.
gravity a force of attraction between objects due to their mass.
free fall when gravity is pulling something down and no other forces are acting on it.
orbit when something travels around another object in space.
