Motion and Forces

Unit 1 lessons 1-4

TermDefinition
Position Describes the location of an object.
reference point is the location to which you compare other locations.
Motion change in position over time.
speed how far an object move in a given amount of time
vector a quantity that has both size and direction
velocity speed in a different direction
acceleration the rate at which velocity changes.
centripetal acceleration acceleration in a circular motion.
force simply a push or a pull.
net force the combination of all the forces acting on an object.
inertia the tendency of all objects to resist a change in motion.
gravity a force of attraction between objects due to their mass.
freefall when gravity is pulling it down and no other forces are acting on it.
orbit travels around another object in space.
