Motion and Forces

Unit 1, Lesson 1

TermDefinition
Position Describes the location of an object.
Reference point a location to which you compare others location.
Motion change is a change in position over time.
Speed Measure of how far something moves in a given amount of time.
Vector a quantity that has both size and direction.
Velocity speed in a specific direction.
Acceleration the rate at which velocity changes.
Centripetal acceleration Acceleration in a circular motion
Force is push or pull
Net force combination of all forces acting on an object
Inertia the tendency of all objects to resit a change in motion
Gravity a force of attraction between objects due to their mass
Free Fall When gravity is pulling it down and no other forces are acting on it.
Orbit travels around another object in space.
