Motion and Forces

Unit 1, lessons 1-4

TermDefinition
Position Describes the location of an object.
Reference Point Is a location to which you compare other locations.
Motion Is a change in position over time.
Speed The speed of an object is a measure of how far something moves in a given amount of time.
vector Is a quantity that has both size and direction.
Velocity Is speed in a specific direction.
Acceleration Is the rate at which velocity changes.
Centripetal acceleraton Acceleration in circular motion.
Force Is simply a push or a pull.
Net force The combination of all the forces acting on an object.
Inertia Is the tendency of all objects to resist a change in motion.
Gravity Is a force of attraction between objects due to their mass.
Free fall When gravity is pulling it down and no other forces are acting on it.
Orbit When it travels around another object in space.
