Motion and Forces

Unit 1 Lesson 1-4

TermDefinition
Position describes the location of and object
Speed the speed of an object is a measure of how far something moves in a given amount of time.
Reference Point is a location were you compare other locations.
vector is a quantity that has both size and direction.
motion is a change in position over time.
velocity is a speed in a specific direction
acceleration is the rate at which velocity changes.
centripetal acceleration acceleration in circular motion
force is simply a push or pull.
net force combination of all the forces acting on an object.
inertia is the tendency of all objects to resist a change in motion.
gravity is a force of attraction between objects due to their mass.
free fall when gravity is pulling it down and no other forces are acting of it.
orbit when it travels around another object in space.
