Motion And Forces

Unit 1 Lessons 1-4

TermDefinition
Position Describes the location of the object.
Reference Point A location to which you compare other locations.
Motion A change in position over time.
Speed A measure of how far something moves in a given amount of time.
Vector A quantity that has both size and direction.
Velocity A speed in a specific direction.
Acceleration The rate in which velocity changes.
Centripetal Acceleration Acceleration in circular motion.
Force A push or pull.
Net Force The combination of all the forces acting on an object.
Inertia The tendency of all objects to resist a change in motion.
Gravity A force of attraction between objects due to their mass.
Free Fall When gravity is pulling down and no other forces acting on it.
Orbit Travels around another object in space.
